Vitamin B1 (Thiamine) is involved in many of the body's reactions including the burning of carbohydrates for energy. Thiamine may be found in individual supplements as well as the supplements that contain all of the B vitamins.
Functions of Vitamin B1 (Thiamine) may include: needed for proper metabolism of thyroid hormones, required for energy production, helps body adapt to stress and required for active nerve function.

Symptoms of B1 deficiency may include: confusion, fatigue, forgetfulness, gastrointestinal disturbances, headache, irritability, loss of appetite, nervousness, mild depression, poor memory, sleep disturbances and vision problems.
Causes of B1 deficiency may include: alcohol, antibiotics, blueberries, brussel sprouts, coffee, diuretics, oral contaceptives, pickeld foods, seafood such as fish, shrimp and clams, sugar, sulfa drugs, and tea.
